I'm a mentor for pre-med students at OSU. OSU med school, esp. the alumni division, has just resurrected a formal program with the pre-med club at OSU. We just had a dinner that included any undergrad student interested in med school, several physicians (associated with the admissions committee and alumni association) and 1st & 2nd yr medical students. I would divide the program into New physician and remedial mentoring. We need both and the responsibilities are different and the choice of mentor would be on different criteria. The preponderance of group practice would seem to provide mentoring inherently. That doesn't always occur and sometimes a more detached mentor from outside the practice would be beneficial.

Keep in mind that OARRS use assures the Board that you are being vigilant. It helps you care for your patients because you can identify abuse in the early stages and refer them for help.
